LONDONERS (11m50s) - A vintage film about modern day London.

A vintage film about modern day London. Shot entirely on a 100 year old wooden hand-cranked 35mm camera, LONDONERS documents modern day London as you have never seen before. Part of the permanent collection of the BFI National Archive. (Director: Joseph Ernst)

In an era obsessed with digital technology and an increasingly camera-skeptic public, Londoners is an attempt to recreate this spectacle using the same technology and filming techniques. It was filmed entirely on a 100 year old wooden hand-cranked 35mm camera, and documents thousands of people happily interacting directly with the camera, almost exactly as they did 100 years ago when film was first used to document the city. This film is proof that despite a century of progress, the city's inhabitants of today are not that different to those that precede them. In fact, once you watch LONDONERS you realise that very little has changed.

A Channel 4 co-production, and part of the permanent collection of the BFI National Archive.
